The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
DVD - 2012
Hoping to distance himself from the fallout of a libel conviction, journalist Mikael Blomkvist retreats to a remote island in Sweden's far north where the unsolved murder of a young girl still haunts her industrialist uncle forty years later. Ensconced in a cottage on the island where the killer may still roam, Blomkvist's investigation draws him into the secrets and lies of the rich and powerful, and throws him together with one unlikely ally: tattooed, punk hacker, Lisbeth Salander.

Add a CommentI heard the audiobook version of this movie a few years ago. It was gripping, better than the movie. The film lacked color. I get that the intent is to mirror the mood of the story but I think it was overkill. The acting was exceptional. The acting scenes, brutal. Not a fun watch, exhausting.
Rooney Mara goes over the top in making herself ugly, antisocial and unsympathetic as Lisbeth Salander. Not Stieg Larsson's intent. Found it hard to watch. The Swedish version is far superior so I'd give this one a pass.
Very good, pretty true to the book, the acting was great!
This is the WORST remake it is nothing like the original at all. I hated it totally and the ending was not even the same at all. I enjoy Daniel Craig's movies but this is utter garbage. I really dislike when Hollywood decides to remake a movie and make it the worst. Just see the original movie this is not worth it.
There are Nazis in the mix; they are really bad guys. There is also a very bad government official who is probably much worse than Harvey Weinstein. Then there is the girl with the dragon tattoo; she is not a 'make my day' type, but she has claws. I believe it is the character that accounts for the popularity; a case study of an abused young female who is really good at what she does while insisting on not being messed with. Ya gets ya sadistic violence and ya gets ya revenge.
Saw this movie in Swedish with subtitles. It was much better.
A good movie, although I'm glad I read the book. Some characters were never identified, although I figured out who they were. It reminds me of some of the movies made of some Stephen King's books, in that they are done somewhat poorly.
Great movie gets better with each viewing >> excellent acting and scene locations >> but the disc skips ~420
I almost stopped watching this because of the violent and very graphic sex scene. As the story moved forward I became more interested. The character of Lisbeth was interesting and well done by Mara Rooney. At times I found the story and it's characters difficult to follow, although it soon evolved into an interesting plot that kept me intrigued for the remainder of the movie. I agree with one of the other comments about the ending that did not fit into the story and certainly did not fit the character of Lisbeth.
As a result of this film, I have become quite taken with Rooney Mara, and her other film work. She's one of our best younger actors in film these days.
