Retells an old Mexican folk tale: the story of the great pearl, how it was found, and how it was lost. For the diver Kino, finding a magnificent pearl means the promise of a better life for his impoverished family. His dream blinds him to the greed and suspicions the pearl arouses in him and his neighbors, and even his loving wife cannot temper his obsession or stem the events leading to the tragedy.

"For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith & pierced themselves with many sorrows." ~ 1 Timothy 6:10 ~

A poor mother & father seek medical help for their sick child, but finding that they had no way to pay for the help, they were turned away. Living on a hope & a prayer, they seek an item of great value to pay the doctor for his services to save the life of their child. What they find is a great pearl, one with worth that is beyond compare. Greed takes control of the man's every thought & action. Greed changes the man. Greed destroys the man. Greed leaves a great, black mark of sorrow on the man. Don't we see this in action today? We can never settle for enough, but we must give up everything in hopes to gain more. More, more, more. As is true in this story, "more" always comes with a price, sometimes a price that we would never have signed on for if we knew what it was.

Age recommendation: 10 & over

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 7.
