"As a new witch--not to mention owner of Savannah's most enchanting bakery--Katie Lightfoot is still getting used to casting spells, brewing potions, and mastering her magical powers. But that doesn't mean she can't find time to enjoy a picnic with firefighter Declan McCarthy...until she stumbles upon a corpse. The dead man's tattoo reveals he was a member of a secret society--and it turns out he's missing an object that was very important to the group. When Katie learns the killer was after more than the man's life, she and her Aunt Lucy leave the baked goods on the rack to cool and set off in hot pursuit of a killer."--P. [4] of cover.

This is one of those cute themed mystery series, you know the kind that gives a good mystery and a new skill. In the magical bakery series its recipes for baked goods!! This is the second book in the series.

Katie is a witch with a talent for murder. Dead bodies just seem to fall in her in her lap.
Good thing she has her aunt Lucy and their coven to keep her out of too much trouble and to offer a bit of magical assistance. She also has the help of local "magic man"/ journalist Steve and his sorta arch nemesis firefighter Declan, the only thing they can agree on is they both got the hots for ms Katie.

Join Katie and her bestie/familiar, always hungry hound, Mungo as they dodge hexes and vex the local druid grove while they dish out magical baked goods as they try to get the "goods" on a magical murderer without becoming the next victims.

This was a cute quick read. A great stand alone second book with an underlying "second mystery" that can only be solved if you read the whole series. Its fun and doesn't take itself too serious. Plus we get an awesome coca cola cake recipe

Solid mystery, entertaining and witchy. However, I'm reading these books at the same time as the series by Heather Blake... which are "fluffier" and are winning in my summer reading blitz. Cates has a lot more skepticism in her books, which I really like, but her books drag a tiny bit. Good book, worth a read.

I'm enjoying this new series a lot. Likable characters, a book club that's also a coven, a bakery that has spells in its baked goods. Some tensions between two magical groups, and a killer. I figured out who the killer was before they did in the book, but it was still interesting how it played out.

I love this new cozy mystery series by Bailey Cates! The books are fun, quick reads. If you are looking for a book that will give you a simple escape, I highly recommend them. I surely hope she writes more & keeps the series going!
