The Age of Enlightenment, year 1790. After returning from the battlefields of a bloody war in Finland, Swedish army surgeon Johan Gustav Dåådh finds himself reluctantly taking on the job as district police commissioner in Stockholm. Unenthusiastic about police work, he still brings tenacity and dispassionate reasoning to the job, with an eye to ensuring that criminals are caught and the innocent remain free. His methods may not be modern but they work, and the motives for the crimes remain unchanged from today : revenge, greed, love, jealousy and politics. Beneath the calm exterior, Dåådh is as conflicted as the times he lives in; he's a closeted revolutionary torn between his loyalty to the King and his progressive ideals. He also struggles with forbidden love for his boss' wife Magdelena, who shares his vision for a just and free society.--Container

Absolutely loved this historical program from Sweden. An excellent view of Swedish society before the socialist revolution. he main character Daadh, a revolutionary at heart, works as a medical doctor and serves as a detective for the high commissioner. Excellent actors, excellent characters, and very well written. I agree with the other reviewer. It's a refreshing take on a detective series. I highly recommend this tv series from Sweden.

Well-made, historical, novel mystery series! The setting, cinematography, the story lines, acting, all very good! Very different from the usual detective series, which is very refreshing!
I definitely recommend the series!

Revolutionary Europe in desperate need of a wash. Tries to be a cross btwn the film, A Royal Affair, and the Dickensian gross-out contest, Ripper Street. A writing and thus characterization fail. Good sets, costumes and filming but actors desperately in need of hair and make-up after a brisk, hot shower. Editing, too, is non-existent. Send it back for rewrite then we'll see.

The setting makes it ok, otherwise not what I have come to expect from Sweden...

Probably a bit slow for those viewers who prefer the remakes of Sherlock Holmes to the originals. It is a series of detective stories with insights on early crime forensics and social orders (disorder?) in Sweden during its Monarchy rule. There were the usual crimes of passion, greed, forbidden love and civil unrest. The setting was so realistic that I felt immersed in time to that era, circa1790 Stockholm, historically accurate or fictional.

Wonderful detectives stories through the eyes of a medical doctor who reluctantly became a police detective.
