What an interesting book. It covered some subject matter I had never read about or considered. A small group of people working together to run a light house, literally isolated from anyone else except for the occasional supply ships. The madness that develops among some of the members, and the humanity of others are well developed. The author always sees things from an interesting perspective and keeps my attention in all of her books I have read.
A beautiful book, written in a classical style, without any chases, murders, corpses.
Although not without an element of the mystery.
The book can be dedicated to women-to their perseverance, courage and the ability to survive in any conditions.
The idea in the book is also that, no matter where you are, there is always something in nature that can be admired and there is always something to learn.
Respect for all living things, no matter how meaningless the existence of these living beings may seem.
Journey to the wilds of California’s Big Sur region, where secrets are hidden in the dense fog at The Edge of the Earth, the newest book by New York Times bestselling author Schwarz. [...] Fans of Schwarz’s previous novels will quickly recognize her signature approach of delving into the human spirit as Trudy and Oskar take divergent paths to achieving the desires of their hearts.
I really enjoyed this book. What originally attracted me to it was the suggestion of a mystery, but in the end, there really were no unexpected twists, or mysteries being revealed. What it did have that kept and held my interest was the magical way the story was unfolded and told. I believe I will remember this book for a while. It left you with a good feeling, and makes you wonder what lies in your own personal history or heritage. The characters were really well developed and I really liked the fact that women were portrayed as strong and able to take care of themselves and not helpless creatures and still remain historically accurate for the time period written about. It also did not stray off into other directions which would have distracted from the real story. The author kept the story focused thus making it an enjoyable journey and not a frustrating one going in many different directions. In summary it was an enjoyable, quick and memorable read.
I thought this book was good but the characterizations were not well enough developed. That was disappointing.
Good choice for book club, also for teen girls. Women's role in society has changed so much in a short time.
