A funny, clever, intelligent, ironic, original and innovative series first aired in 1982. It is definitely not as politically correct as today's TV - and that's a relief. It makes the stories more realistic and human.
Superb, effortless acting from three old pros: Ed Flanders, Norman Lloyd, and the hysterical William Daniels. Howie Mandel is a standout also among a cast of often quirky characters.
Sometimes a bit overdone and maudlin, but this is a TV series the likes of which you rarely see today, unfortunately.

I am old enough that I clearly remember when St. Elsewhere was on tv and we would not missed an episode! The person I am now living with had never seen it so I checked out this video. It is still an awesome show! The dated stuff (pay phones, nurses uniforms, the 1980's cars, etc.) only makes it more fun! It is also fun to see if you know what happened to the members of the regular cast and some of the guest stars-check in on Wikipedia if you're curious! The "Special Features" section has a "Must See" interview with Tim Robbins! It's really interesting to look back and see how much this show influenced many of the fine programs of today-Law & Order, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, to name a few-both in the way the stories are told as well as camera work, direction, and editing.
