"An epic love story that spans childhood into adulthood, the film follows Heathcliff, an outsider taken in and given a home by a benevolent Yorkshire farmer, Earnshaw. Heathcliff develops a passionate relationship with the farmer's teenage daughter, Catherine, inspiring the envy and mistrust of his rough-hewn son, Hindley. Years later, when Earnshaw dies, the young adults must finally confront the intense feelings and destructive rivalries that have developed between them"--Container.

Only made it about 30 minutes, before giving up on it. Recommend another picking other film adaptations.

I LOVED this version of the movie. It's gritty and sensual...the landscape and the light are almost like characters in the movie. Gorgeous to watch.

This is the one time I have to agree with all the negative reviews. This movie was really awful. A complete waste of time. There really is no story. It was poorly directed, edited, produced and made no sense whatsoever. Since there was little to no dialogue, I ended up fast forwarding the movie to the end.

Terrible movie. It seemed as if all the scenes were shot in the dark. I couldn't understand what the actors were saying. What was the point of this movie anyway? Did not finish watching this.

Awful. Horrible. Totally missed the point of the love story. As others have commented, had to put subtitles on because it sounded like everyone had marbles in their mouths plus the background noises were overdone. Haven't read the book & don't think I will.

outstanding comments below. funny. Fav comment: "The original story is bad enough without adding in casual puppy-stranglings and necrophilia."

Andrea Arnold should be considered a major modern filmmaker. I love how she just pours her camera around her subjects. She's speaking a different language of cinema than the rest of the herd.

Despite the many negative reviews, I really enjoyed it.
