A second Justice League is organized through the American government, and for a simple reason- to checkmate the original League if needed. Johns actually handles the characters better here than his take on the League. There's a bit of a drawback to this collection- the latter stories are part of a crossover, and only the title's portions are included, which leaves one with the impression that they're missing large sections of the story if they haven't read Trinity War.

I have to add that I was also pleasantly surprised with this trade paperback. I didn't understand why they were creating another Justice League team but when you read this it makes great sense. And is it my imagination or has the usually reliable Geoff Johns' writing actually gotten EVEN BETTER? It's not too often that guys can change their game and I think he arguably has with this volume. Even though the team might feel B - list compared to Superman and company, this Justice League is worth checking out!

Very pleasantly surprised at how well written this book is, there are no false steps with the characters and while the plot sometimes seems to make big leaps, it was not to hard to follow. Above all the Martian Manhunter is FINALLY being handled in an interesting way. He can be a great character but for decades he has not been. Extra half star for that.
