While Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona wrote and illustrated this series, the stories and artwork were top notch. It was a very fun and engaging story. I remember enjoying it immensely as a kid. The series stood out among its peers in that its protagonists were very diverse and interesting. One character was genderqueer, another was glbt, and the other characters were either Japanese American, African American or Latin American. This story went on for a few years under Vaughan and Alphona until the writers were switched and the series went to hell. Prior to the switch, everything was top notch though. I would recommend it to younger readers in particular though the writing is interesting enough to engage older readers as well.
