This book is awesome. I feel there aren't enough young adult sci-fi books out there, but let's all just be glad this one exists. Kaufman and Kristoff do something amazing with this book-- they tell a story as though one is reading a long file of an event that happened in space. If you flip quickly through the book, you'll see pictures, emails, reports of video clips, IMs, and some crazy pages that look like word-art. This is what makes the book so scary thick (pictures break up a lot of the text). But trust me, you'll read the whole thing in a few days, and be putting the second book Gemina (which in my honest opinion was even better than Illuminae) on hold. This is a great action book with a touch of romance, amazing characters, and great writing. Plot wise, this book follows Kady and Ezra. When their planet is attacked, they run for their lives and end up finding refuge on a spaceship--at least for the time being. Their ship is being chased down by the crazy people who attacked their planet, and their only hope for survival is getting to a way-point before their attackers finish them off. And that's the EASY part of what they have to do, because things inevitably get worse and worse.
