This is a very poignant novel about a young girl living with poverty and horrendous abuse. Told from her point of view as an 8 year old , it focuses mostly on her relationship with her six year old sister Emma. Carrie, wise beyond her years, seems to have a really good take on how to survive her life, and sometimes even see the humour in some situations. The book is sad and inspiring and has an ending that will make you think about it long after you read the last page.
