Blythe comes from two generations of “bad” mothers. Women who faced tragedy, trauma, and didn’t want the daughters they had. Hoping she could overcome her past, Blythe falls in love and has a baby girl of her own. Throughout her pregnancy, Blythe is happy and content looking forward to her daughter’s arrival. But the delivery changes everything. When it’s time to push Blythe is scared of her child, she doesn’t want this anymore. After Violet is born, Blythe has a hard time adjusting, bonding, and caring for her daughter. She pushes Violet away. Then believes Violet loves her husband more and wants nothing to do with her. Is it the lack of sleep? Loss of autonomy? Or is there something wrong with Violet? Reading this crazy story is addicting. Is Blythe to blame? Or is there something off about Violet? Blythe’s backstory and the stories of her mother and grandmother shape this story into more than just a psychological thriller. The intensity of Blythe’s need to tell her story shines through creating an interesting reading experience.
