VERY GOOD 1937 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer adventure film, based on the 1897 novel of the same name by Rudyard Kipling. It's a coming-of-age classic with exciting action sequences.
Harvey Cheyne (played by Freddie Bartholomew) is an interesting youth who has a falling out at his private boarding school and thenmtaken by his father on a business trip to Europe on a steamship.
Harvey does fall overboard midway and subsequently rescued by a Portuguese-American fisherman, Manuel Fidello (Spencer Tracy), and taken aboard the fishing schooner. Tracy does an excellent and amusing job as the Manuel character and pretty much leads the story.
