When I was first recommend Beautiful Creatures I thought that it would be just like all the other fantasy romance novels, ordinary and repetitive. I picked it up for a second time, giving it an actual chance this time and it turned out that I really like this book. Beautiful Creatures is about a boy named Ethan Wate who is trapped in a small town named Gaitlyn. This town is full of superficial people who don’t except any new comers. After Ethan’s mother passed away from a car accident he is feeling alone. All he wants is to finish school and ditch the place he and many generations of his family have called home. Ethan is unexpectedly introduced to a new girl named Lena who is mysterious compared to his generic life. She is the niece of the most intolerable man in town, Macon Ravenwood. This town and its people are not at all excepting of Lena’s presence. These uncivil people do everything possible to try and ruin Lena, but she has more of a history in Gaitlyn then they know!! Beautiful Creatures doesn’t have your typical fantasy characters such as vampires, werewolves or witches. They are different and that’s what makes this book stand out. Reading this book makes you second-guess your own life. You begin to ask yourself are you being true to yourself? Following your own dreams? Or are you pretending to be someone that your not? Even though it is a fantasy fiction book I still related to it. The book does not start out very fast, but stick with it, it becomes a great read. If you are interested in the mortal instruments, infernal devices or twilight I recommend reading this series.
