So, I didn't realize this was a horror book when I put it on hold. I just knew it was by Stephen Chbosky, and I'd enjoyed his last book (Perks of Being a Wallflower) from 20 years ago. I also did not pay the cover much attention when I finally got a copy. I am not a big horror reader at all. Luckily this one wasn't too bad, and even a big wimp like me could read it. It was extremely long - so long that I had to return the book to the library and wait on hold a second time for it. It was also very slow to get me hooked into reading it. And maybe that's because it IS horror, but there is a lot of set up and character building. For me, that was the best part. I didn't actually enjoy the bits of the horror story that started building up. At first, it was kind of cheesy, but eventually enough of the world building and description was there to really get into it. It was a long read, but still enjoyable, even for a non horror reader like myself.
