This book was definitely a continuation of book one so it's not a standalone. In the beginning, like book one, the characters, especially Conrad, got on my nerves. However, after reading more, it got more understandable and I'm glad I finished reading the book. The book expresses each character's emotions and flaws so well that you can't help feeling for each of them.
I still like the first book better as this book didn't really do much with the plot but that's how it works for most trilogies. I'm excited to read the last book and see how everything ends. -Lucy, Grade 10
